Formation and early years (2008-2009)[]
Drummer Karl Wood, guitarists Chad Mustang and Nathan Klevold, and bassist Kirk Khan were members of the short-lived deathrash band Monster Shutter. They recorded one album and played two live shows. Mustang, feeling a new musical direction was needed,
One week later, Bulgarian-born guitarist Aleksandar Nikolov placed an advertisement in a Los Angeles Times newspaper, which read "Guitarist looking for musicians to form deathrash band." Mustang, Klevold, Wood and Khan answered the advertisement.
